The Bikes Will Ride On: Segment Two- Breakaway

During a time of recession when longevity is the name of the game and the price of business is high, Breakaway Bikes has learned that repairs are their shop’s new specialty.
This competitive bike-shop offers services that range anywhere from coaching sessions to the selling of cyclist products but over the past few years have noticed an uptick in their repairs.
“People are more conscious about what they spend their money on,”  said Joseph Wentzell a co-owner of the shop and 2011 cycling world champion.
According to Wentzell people are more concerned about fixing the bikes that they already own in order to save money in the poor economic times.
Wentzell himself has an extreme love for cycling an affair that started on a BMX bike when he was 6 years old.
“It was my first freedom.” he said.
Break away Bikes is fairing well but Wentzell he does not believe that that is due to anyone switching to bikes to avoid the cost of cars, as suggested by Trophy Bikes owner Mike McGettian.

“It takes a real effort to Bike to work,” said Wentzell, “The city is trending towards it but it’s not yet safe. “
