Concert Attendance & the Economy - The Band

Within the last couple of years as a musician, ex-I Am the Fighter band member Jordan Lawrence has seen better days when it comes to local gigs.

Being a somewhat popular band among hundreds of others in the Philadelphia area doesn’t come easy. It takes not only actual talent, but also a decent fan base that will spread the word and make the shows worth going to.

More recently, however, Lawrence says it has been harder to keep the fans coming to the shows. This could be due to the fact that people simply do not have the money to spend on local shows.

“I’ve definitely seen less and less people attending local shows,” Lawrence said. “When we first started out, we had 50 people coming out to our first few shows which were headliners. The last show we played was with a signed touring band and there were only a few more people.”

Lawrence believes that if this trend continues, it will be incredibly detrimental to the local music scene in Philadelphia while it will probably help out bigger bands.

“I think it’s really unfair that bands think they can mark up the price [of tickets] just because they’ve played arenas and think they’re more popular.”
